Kabuki, known for its extravagant costumes, painted faces and rich staging, will be showcased on September 18, 2011 at the California State University Monterey Bay’s World Theater. Presented by U.S Kabuki Ken Kyū Kai, in conjunction with local Japanese Classical dance troops Kyo no Kai and Bando Mitsuhiro Monterey Peninsula Kai, “Fifth Anniversary ‘Kyo no Kai: Clash of the Thunder’” a production of various Kabuki dance dramas will premier at the World Theater for a onetime engagement starting at 1PM. This production will feature American born Kabuki actor Nakamura Gankyo, along with guest artists from Japan: Kabuki actor Bando Yahiro and Japanese Classical dance artists Fujima Toyohiro and Bando Ai. This production will allow the audience to have a first-hand glimpse into the Kabuki Theater andJapanese Classical dance world without ever leaving California.
U.S. Kabuki Ken Kyū Kai is a Non Profit Organization founded in 1998 with a mission to promote and foster a better understanding of the Japanese cultural arts in the United States. In June of 2008, U.S. Kabuki Ken Kyū Kai presented “Kyo no Kai” Kabuki dance dramas performance to a sold out crowd at California State University Monterey Bay’s World Theater. Since 2008, this will be the first time that Kabuki dance dramas and Japanese Classical dances will be showcased and introduced in the Monterey Peninsula area.
