BROWN CREEPER Certhis americana
8 July 2001 in Santa Cruz SCZ

The BROWN CREEPER is a widespread resident throughout montane California and along the wooded coast south to San Luis Obispo Co. It nests in my backyard. In winter there is substantial downslope movement and erractic movements into places it is less common like the deserts or southern California coast.

The only California records are listed below are (1) my personal "state bird" and (2) those with unusual dates or locales. All my other observations are well within normal status & distributional limits. I have seen birds in the desert or southern California coast in migration or winter but these are not really that unusual so I've not pulled them out of my notes.
