BLACK VULTURE Coragyps atratus

The BLACK VULTURE is an exceptional vagrant in California with
only 2 records. One was with migrant Swainson's Hawks over Chico BUT on
13 Apr 1972; the second spent the fall & early winter with Turkey Vultures
around Arcata HUM 19 Sep 1993-9 Feb 1994. I saw that bird but it took two
tries. My set of photos are very distant in overcast weather with periods
of drizzly rain; the Black Vulture was at a roost but did stretch its wings
(you can see a bit of the wing pattern in the distant photo).
